PostHeaderIcon Lion King Behing The Scenes Video – Talk with Costumes Supervisor

Behind the curtain, Gregory Young supervises hundreds of costumes.

“Each actor has a number, and each costume has a letter so this would be the first costume that she’ll be wearing in the show.”

There are 250 costumes on stage every performance. There are 350 costumes in total. Each one is creative and unique down to the last detail.

“This one is one of my favorites when Simba and Nala reunite. It’s very green, and all of a sudden you have a burst of color, and it opens up like this.”

Most theaters are square in shape as is “The Lion King” production. So Century II’s circle was cause for planning way ahead of show time.

“The men are on the other side of what we call the crossover so they’re on stage left and we’re on stage right. We only have the women on this side so normally this would be double the length that it is now,” said Young.

Every three cast members have a person who helps them in and out of costumes all performance long.

“We are one step ahead, a scene ahead of each performer. So when they go away, they start setting the costume for the next scene.”

PostHeaderIcon The Lion King Star Alton Fitzgerald White – Interview Via Playbill

Disney’s The Lion King Mufasa Alton Fitzgerald White brief chat on Playbill.com. He commented on their recent theatregoing experiences, what productions they are looking forward to and more.

What show recently impressed you?
The last show that I saw that impressed me was One Man, Two Guvnors. It was not at all what I expected. I was looking forward to some witty, high-brow, intellectual, British humor, but instead got an evening of fantastic, broad, slapstick comedy with the brilliant, extremely likeable James Corden at the helm! Fun! Fun! Fun!

What are your current/upcoming projects?
On top of it being my most favorite season, this coming autumn is my most exciting to date! The week of Sept. 16, I will sail and perform Disney classics on my second Disney cruise and promote my new upcoming Disney CD. Oct. 1 is the release date of my already critically acclaimed “Disney: My Way!” CD, full of Disney on Broadway tunes re-imagined with mostly jazz-infused arrangements, produced by the phenomenal Jim Abbott. Thomas Schumacher, The President of Disney Theatrical Group, wrote liner notes that took my breath away! The Record Release Concert will be performed at 54 Below on Monday, Nov. 5 at 9:30 PM, and I will be performing my Annual Holiday Cabaret at The Metropolitan Room on Monday, Dec. 10 at 7 PM. And then, of course, there are my eight-shows a week as King Mufasa in the phenomenon that is The Lion King on Broadway!!! For song samples from my upcoming “Disney: My Way!” CD, please visit my audio page at altonfitzgeraldwhite.com.

PostHeaderIcon Lion King Arrives at Century II Convention Center for Four-Week Run

The Lion King musical arrives at Century II Convention Center on Tuesday September 04, 2012 for a four-week, 32-show run. Lion King in Wichita, Kansas run through September 30, 2012.

The Wichita show is special, says production stage manager Ken Davis, because “The Lion King” has never played here before. By contrast, the recent run in St. Louis was the company’s third.

“Wichita is a debut, so you can’t rest on your laurels,” Davis said.

The story of “The Lion King” focuses on Simba, the mischievous lion cub of Mufasa, king of the savanna. Simba is to inherit the throne from his father someday, but Mufasa’s jealous brother, Scar, has other plans. He enlists a band of hyenas to help him get both Mufasa and Simba out of his way. As Simba grows, he finds the strength to fight back against his evil uncle, aided by his love interest/childhood friend Nala, wise baboon Rafiki, protective red-billed hornbill Zazu, big-hearted warthog Pumbaa and wisecracking meerkat Timon.
