10-year-old Davis Matthews who first auditioned early this year for Lion King musical is now starring as Young Simba in ‘The Lion King’ on Broadway until December. Davis, who grew up in New Rochelle, has always enjoyed singing, acting, and dancing. Tabitha, his mother, is his motivation. She has appeared in numerous community theatres and is his acting tutor.

David Matthews will make his Broadway debut in The Lion King; he began performing at the age of six with White Plains Performing Arts Center and has since appeared at Sandbox Theater and Random Farms Kids Theater. Bazemore, a veteran of the The Lion King Touring and Broadway performances, has also appeared in regional productions of Ragtime, Rachel, and The Snow Day. The audience love new young Simba. Davis Matthews’ own circle of relatives love the pleasure it brings him and the message it sends to different children. “The feeling of just being so proud that he is living out his dream, living out his ancestor’s dream, and so many other kids that look up to you, who look just like you, and you’re able to say if I did it, you can do it too,” Tabitha Matthews said. This will be another milestone for The Lion King Broadway show.

Over 21 million theatregoers have seen The Lion King touring productions in North America for more than 20 years. The Lion King comes to Philadelphia at the Academy Of Music after more than 9,000 performances in over 90 cities across North at the Lion King tour.

Philadelphians can also expect to see two local cast members on Pride Rock: Nick LaMedica, who plays ‘Zazu,’ is from Newark, Delaware. Eric Bean, Jr., a member of the ensemble, graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

It’s been nearly ten years since “The Lion King” was in the D.C. region, and new and returning audience members are looking forward to a thrilling theatrical experience. Samaree Lawson, a local performer and dancer, has joined the ensemble as the Birman Soloist. This is Lawson’s first Broadway performance. During the upcoming performance at the Kennedy Center, a group of 161 family and friends will witness “The Lion King,” the majority of whom have never seen Lawson dance.

A fantastic cast enhances the good content. Although there are a number of prominent performers, including L. Steven Taylor, Stephen Carlile, and Cameron Pow, it is the ensemble as a whole that pulls the real and symbolic weight in a production like this. The performers are challenged to bring the vibrant spectacle of the performance to life on stage and take on a bewildering variety of roles throughout the tours, making it a genuinely ensemble-driven production.
