Lion King’s 27th Broadway Anniversary – Surprise Appearance by Show’s Original Young Nala
Lion King Musival on Broadway Celebrates 27th Anniversary on November 13, 2024. And to mark the milestone, the cast surprised the crowd with Kajuana S. Marie, who created the role of Young Nala at the age of 10 when the show opened in 1997.
Broadway’s The Lion King roared onto the scene in 1997, just three years after the release of the animated classic. The Lion King officially opened at the New Amsterdam Theatre on November 13, 1997, transferring to the Minskoff in 2006. Lion King Musical on Broadway is 27 years and counting.
Kajuana S. Marie held back tears in an emotional curtain call appearance on Nov. 13. “I absolutely was here the opening night of the show because I am actually the very first Young Nala,” Marie said, in video from the moment shared to The Lion King’s social media channel.
“A surreal moment,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories, reposting the video.
