Lion King sales a roaring success in Schenectady, NY
Lion King will be visiting Schenectady’s Proctors Theatre from Tuesday, February 22, 2011 and performing through Sunday, March 20, 2011 with 32 performances.
Tickets are selling so fast for The Lion King at Proctors in Schenectady that it is a safe bet every show will sell out, which would be a first for a monthlong-run production at the historic theater.
Proctors CEO Philip Morris said slightly more than 75 percent of the seats have been sold since tickets went on sale to the public Nov. 14.
Hundreds showed up the first day, with some camping out overnight to score seats. Prices range from $20 to $80, but can be as high as $130 for special premium packages.
Morris knew the show would be popular, but said the sales pace is faster than expected. “With two months left before the show I can’t imagine it not selling out,” Morris said.
Morris expects Proctors will turn a profit on “The Lion King” based on a complicated formula that includes individual and group ticket sales, fees and weekly rent.
