During that 38-performance run, 66,078 paying customers saw the show. Two performances were cancelled because of inclement weather.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cA show like this truly raises all boats in the harbor,\u201d said John Rhamstine, director of Seven Venues, which manages <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lionkingbroadwayticketsonline.com\/lion-king-chrysler-hall.html\">Chrysler Hall<\/a>. \u201cIt was more than just a healthy run. The $4.6 million gross was in spite of the fact that this is the second time in this market and the fact that we lost two performances to the snow. We were pleased not only with the numbers but to be able to host such a great cast and crew, who were not only professional but friendly. They truly seemed to enjoy being in Norfolk despite some challenging weather.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lionkingbroadwayticketsonline.com\/lion-king-norfolk-va-tickets.html\">\u201cThe Lion King\u2019s\u201d first run in Norfolk<\/a> five years ago set a record,  grossing  $6.5 million with 98 percent capacity in sales by the end of its run in January 2006. That, however, was for a 45-performance run. A repeat was  unlikely because 98 percent capacity is a rarity in the present economy. \u201cThe Lion King,\u201d too, is in competition with itself, with 17 versions around the world, including productions in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lionkingbroadwayticketsonline.com\/lion-king-new-york-ny-tickets.html\">New York<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lionkingbroadwayticketsonline.com\/lion-king-las-vegas-nv-tickets.html\">Las Vegas<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The company is now playing in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lionkingbroadwayticketsonline.com\/lion-king-durham-performing-arts-center.html\">Durham Performing Arts Center, Durham, N.C.<\/a>,  along with its 39 hyenas, 52 wildebeests, several giraffes, gazelles, zebras, an elephant and one money-making lion.<\/p>\n<p>Future bookings will include, next season, another return of a previous box office success, \u201c<a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/outgoing\/www.wickedthemusicalticketsonline.com\/');\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.wickedthemusicalticketsonline.com\/\">Wicked<\/a>,\u201d which  had a successful run here two years ago.<\/p>\n<div class=\"addtoany_share_save_container\"><div class=\"a2a_kit a2a_kit_size_32 a2a_target addtoany_list\" id=\"wpa2a_1\"><a class=\"a2a_dd addtoany_share_save\" href=\"http:\/\/www.addtoany.com\/share_save\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.lionkingbroadwayticketsonline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/add-to-any\/share_save_171_16.png\" width=\"171\" height=\"16\" alt=\"Share\"\/><\/a>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\nwpa2a.script_load();\n\/\/--><\/script>\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Estimates from city-run venue Chrysler Hall show that \u201cThe Lion King\u201d brought $4.6 million into downtown Norfolk, with additional boosts for hotels and shopping. \u201cThe Lion King\u201d played to 76 percent capacity during its five-week stay from November through January, according to the city.
